Nascido em Marburg, Alemanha, em 1852, Fick teve uns come\u00e7os algo desafortunados na vida, pois os dois pais faleceram antes de completar seis anos. Ap\u00f3s o falecimento da sua m\u00e3e e do seu pai, foi criado pelo seu tio, cujo nome partilhava \u2013 Adolf Eugen Fick, um respeitado m\u00e9dico, psic\u00f3logo e cardiologista da \u00e9poca.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sob a tutela do seu tio, Adolf Fick (sobrinho) decidiu estudar Medicina e Anatomia na Alemanha e na Su\u00ed\u00e7a, obtendo o seu doutoramento em 1875. Em seguida, Fick emigrou para a \u00c1frica do Sul, onde abriu e trabalhou num consult\u00f3rio m\u00e9dico durante sete anos. Com saudades da sua terra, em 1886 regressou \u00e0 Alemanha e casou com Marie Wislicenus, filha do conhecido qu\u00edmico Johannes Wislicenus. O casal mudou-se para a Su\u00ed\u00e7a, onde Fick exerceu como m\u00e9dico privado e professor na Universidade de Zurique de 1887 a 1914.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Com o eclodir da Primeira Guerra Mundial, Fick ofereceu-se como volunt\u00e1rio para trabalhar na linha da frente em hospitais por toda a Europa, ao mesmo tempo que avan\u00e7ava nos seus estudos de oftalmologia e vis\u00e3o. Em 1937, Adolf Gaston Eugen Fick faleceu pacificamente aos 84 anos de idade.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-larger-font-size\">As contribui\u00e7\u00f5es de Adolf Fick para os cuidados oculares&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Em 1888, Adolf Fick construiu o seu primeiro modelo de lente escleral ao criar uma lente em forma de concha feita de vidro soprado para corrigir erros refrativos&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Realizou ensaios com o primeiro design de lentes de contacto ao coloc\u00e1-lo no tecido menos sens\u00edvel em torno da c\u00f3rnea. Primeiro em coelhos, depois em si pr\u00f3prio, e por fim num grupo de colegas que quiseram experimentar&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Fick publicou as suas descobertas sob o t\u00edtulo &#8216;Contactbrille&#8217; numa reconhecida revista m\u00e9dica, descrevendo o primeiro uso cl\u00ednico de lentes de contacto&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Palavras finais&nbsp;<\/h3>\n<p>Adolf Gaston Eugen Fick \u00e9 considerado o inventor das primeiras lentes de contacto verdadeiras. Embora fosse invi\u00e1vel us\u00e1-las por mais do que algumas horas devido ao seu peso e tamanho, o trabalho de Fick inspirou outros inovadores no campo \u00f3tico a fazer progressos no design das lentes de contacto.
